radio spugna is an amateur, informal and precarious web radio, broadcasting live from a suitcase-table. It was born in 2023 inside Rumore, a space in Urbino managed by ISIA Urbino, where students can organise exhibitions, performances and other independent activities. Founded by Roberta Antinolfi, Nicolaï M. Vrenna, Noa Merlini, Agnese Pozzobon and Martina Valente, the project emerged from the academic context of Urbino with the intention of creating connections between places and people. Through an open and horizontal approach, radio spugna explores themes such as self-education, books, projects, music and precarity, fostering a peer-to-peer exchange of voices and ideas.
The radio is built upon three guiding concepts: chorality, understood as the coordination and coexistence of multiple voices; transience, which values the immaterial and ephemeral nature of radio while promoting a conscious use of its tools; and porosity, as an attitude of openness towards collaboration and contamination.
Since its beginning, radio spugna has taken part in the Venice edition of Index Art Book Fair and in Sprint – Art Book Fair in Milan.
